I wonder if the “Tintin” in her name has something to do with the cartoon character who was also resourceful and independent? As everyone knows by now, Time magazine chose Greta as “person of the year”. Someone was not too happy with that, and made his feelings known. But this is not the first time she has been mocked by the President, nor is he the only important person who has taken shots at her. Putin and Bolsonaro as well have both ridiculed her. Isn’t it amazing that a 16 year old girl can make some of the top global leaders uncomfortable? Or is it the subject she is championing. If they were to commend her for her spirit and drive, that might legitimize what she is trying to do, which is to draw awareness to climate change. She began this quest back in August of 2018, at the ripe old age of 15. She would stand outside the Swedish Parliament to call for stronger action on global warming. Her sign would say; “School strike for the climate”, which then caught on in Sweden and then throughout the world. I have heard at least one parent claim she was setting a bad example.

I’m sorry, but we need more kids like Greta. Most kids are more interested in spending time surfing social media. But I would also say that the example that many grownups are setting these days is showing they also need someone to set an example, even if she is only 16. World leaders who mock such a person, should be ashamed, but of course they have no shame to speak of.

Go Greta!
